Window Cleaning Secrets

May 31st, 2009

On the surface, window cleaning seems like a pretty easy job.You can ask any young kid to clean your windows, for pay, and watch them jump at the chance. The problem however, is that they will only do this once before they come to tell you that they don’t ever want to do that again. Now the challenge when cleaning the windows is not the actual work involved, it’s how and when you do it, and what tools you are going to use.  Take it from my years as a San Diego Window cleaning company, if you want someone to enjoy cleaning your windows, or if you want to do it yourself, keep some of these tips below in mind.

If your washing your windows in direct sunlight, you will start to realize that this will cause unsightly streaks that never seem to go away no matter how much you clean them! It’s very frustrating, but knowing something as simple as when to wash them like when the sun passes and is not on the windows, or when the sun is so hot, can save you from a lot frustration.

Some San Diego window washing tips that take the frustration and hassle out of window cleaning are:

How you hold the squeegee counts!

Make sure when you hold the squeegee, you have it angled in the direction the water is flowing. If the water is running down to your feet, move the squeegee sideways causing the water being squeegeed to go down to the part you haven’t cleaned yet. If you find yourself on a rooftop for example and you find the down angle above your head, make sure to squeegee forward so you cause the water to flow to the part untouched. If you find yourself working against the flow of water, this will cause the water to build up and it will flow out of the sides and that will make streaks.

The wiping of the blade is important!

Some people are going to try to clean the whole window without wiping the blade until the very end. This won’t work very well and can make ugly streaks just from the water left on the blade. Every time you go to get that (which is twice in the same spot essentially) you cause another streak.Wiping after each stroke the blade will avoid this problem completelyand get the window cleaned much faster without retracing steps.

Overlap the streaks

After every stroke, make the next stroke overlap (about an inch into the dry area) and make your next stroke. If you are pointing the squeegee to make the water fall downward to the part of the window that is wet and you are drying the blade after every stroke, you won’t make
an additional window streak that will need to be done over. Never try to squeegee right on the line, this could cause splash up into the dry area and is counter productive.

Use plenty of water

If you don’t use plenty of water, you will cause yourself a hard time by making the strokes more dificult rather than smooth strokes with the squeegee. don’t be afraid to use a lot of water and when possible be sure to use sideway strokes where the water is flowing down towards the part of the glass that is wet.

So that’s it.  Some easy to apply San Diego window cleaning tips for all you do it your selfers.Follow these simple pieces of advice and you will be happy with how your windows turn out.

Think Outside the Box when it Comes to Who to Co-Promote WIth

May 31st, 2009

What do a luxury Day spa and Baltimore Mixed Martial Arts Gym have in common?

Nothing except that we have both experienced a surge in business due to our recent promotion partnerships.

We have been partnering with a multitude of businesses very different from our own and have been having great success running co-promotional events. We run a Baltimore MMA gym which focuses on producing fighters for events like the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The day spa works on getting men and women looking and feeling good. We offered enrollment bonuses such as gift certificates (often given to the girlfriends and wives of the new student), that we get at a substantial discount, and free haircuts. Since the Day spa industry works on a continuity model (people like to get their haircut at the same place usually by the same person), every new walk-in represents a substantial lifetime income boost not including all the add-ons such as massages, pedicures, etc.

Another recent example from our business has been our partnership with a local legal firm. Attorneys are used a few times during a person’s life and consequently, their success depends on being available during those rare occurrences when they are needed i.e. estate planning, criminal cases, etc. The firm was very happy to be involved in our program as it is just another opportunity to get its name out there as “the” people to go to. Plus, they can come give talks about various topics that can be an additional bonus for people involved in your program.

Oftentimes, business very different from your own are more happy to work with you as they do not see you as competition. We have found that even businesses that are remotely related often view us with more suspicion and can be harder to partner with. Definitely don’t think “in the box” when looking for businesses to partner with!

Looking for Online Payroll? Consider These Things

May 30th, 2009

It is common for a business to assign the job of payroll to another company. This is understandable, as dealing with payroll is very time-consuming, especially if you have many employees, they receive various salaries in their paychecks or they are located throughout the country.

Before talking to a payroll processing services, consider what services you are looking for. When receiving a cost quote, ensure the estimate contains the features you desire, so that your evaluation is correct. Some services may contain more services in their primary package compared to others.

Some services may charge an additional fee for options including direct deposit. If you are uncertain which services you need, ask the payroll company what they offer in their basic plans, and what the cost of additional services are.

Most payroll services may bill a fixed amount, in addition to per-check fees. Therefore, by paying your employees every week, it is going to be a lot pricier than compensating you employees every two weeks.

Since payroll is a delicate subject matter, it is important that the payroll company you select is very reliable and trustworthy. If your employees see discrepancies with their pay checks, it will cause them to look at your business in a bad way. Inquire about the professionalism, support and reliability of the web based payroll processing company.

Another thing is to look into the reporting options available to you. The payroll providers may possibly have online reporting with everything you need to know about your payroll. Another option is to give your employees access to a private payroll account online.

Unlike other kinds of online services, payroll requires that you are able to be in continuous contact with the company that handles your payroll at all times of the year. Before signing up with them, inquire who will be in charge of your account. Ensure that you are at ease dealing with that person as you may have to communicate with her regularly.

Any require to file impoverishment to be believed insolvent?

May 30th, 2009

Most clienteles in the preceding years, used to be really worried about their high credit card debts. During those times, they only deemed that filing impoverishment would definitely make them free from all types of indebtedness. All their leftover assets were then, liquidated by the federal bankruptcy court. But all these belongings were more or less insignificant. The federal impoverishment court would forgiven these unpaid loans. As a result at the end, these debtors would finally get free from all kinds of debts. However, many of them were gone without a roof on their head.

Many people think of filing bankruptcy as the last solution for all their tribulations. But, when the number of calls made by the creditors increase essentially and the lawful notices keep piling to a significant level, the only and most effortless solution that is left with the debtors is that of bankruptcy so as to escape this form of unpleasant situation. But, what people don’t see or understand is the social disgrace that is involved with liquidation. Furthermore, your company would not easily trust you because of the insolvency stamp that is tagged to your credit account.

As a result of the bankruptcy tag attached to your account, you would not get any form of loan from any financial institution. Thus, no credit card company would even dare to propose their credit cards to you. Hence, it would get unachievable to get a mortgage for your many other tasks. Apart from this, even your credit rating would get tarnished for the next ten years. But, even if you manage to get a loan, you would get it at a higher rate of interest as compared to that of the others. Thus, you can never mend up your flawed credit profile through the many sorts of credits.

Many people are confused about the variation between insolvency and impoverishment. Most people use these two terms compatibly whereas, in reality they are dissimilar from each other. Most primarily, you need to understand that you don’t have to file for insolvency to be thought insolvent. As compared to impoverishment, insolvency is a completely diverse concept. As a result, you should never treat the two terms evenly. The term bankrupt is generally relevant to those individuals who are bankrupt, while the term insolvency is applied for the huge business houses.

So, if you want to effortlessly get rid of your social liquidation stains, then you should most primarily contact the Levy consulting. Levy consulting is the preeminent option for your business even if it has crossed the limit of insolvency. The Levy Consulting is the paramount firm in the current day and age that gives the most rational insolvency services. The insolvency practitioners operating at the Levy Consulting are exceptionally professional and skilled in their profession. The suggestions received from these professionals would surely facilitate your company in order to get rid of the insolvency tag.

The Importance of Having a Business Plan for Small Businesses

May 29th, 2009

When starting a business, having a good business plan is necessary. A big business usually have a more comprehensive business plan than a small business but all businesses need business plans. It is not safe to start a business unless you have a good plan.

There are many reasons for having a good business plan. Not only is it for the business owner to decide whether the business will be successful but it is also needed by lenders if you ever want to get a a loan for your business. The financial forecast part of the business plan is, by far, the most important one when you need to get a loan. The lender or bank will need you to prove to them that your business is going to be a successful business. They need to see for themselves how and when your business will profit so that you can repay the loan. For a business to profit, the plan has to show how it is going to make money when subtracting all the costs associated with starting the business as well as investment costs. It needs to spell out all the income and expenses of the business each and every year up to the time that all the loans will be paid off.

Many small businesses take a long time to write a business plan because it can be complicated to project all the aspects of the business upfront. Not only the business needs to be clear on what services and products the business will have but there are a substantial number of important analyses to be included in the business plan. The industry analysis is one that might take a long time but it can be done at the same time as market analysis. In each market, there are many competing businesses and they must be analyzed and part of the competitive analysis section of the business plan.

One other important section of a business plan is the sales and marketing strategy section. Each business must find ways to market its services and products to find as many customers as possible. These days, there are plenty of online marketing techniques as well as off line marketing techniques. It is necessary to use all the various marketing channels that can be used to help the business grow.

Tips For Improved Retaining Employees In Small Businesses

May 28th, 2009

Normal 0

Many small businesses struggle to hire top notch employees as well as retain them. There are a number of areas where they believe they are at a disadvantage compared to larger businesses.

These concerns include: 1) Lack of career growth possibilities, 2) Employee Pay, 3) Employee Benefits and 4) An unstructured environment. I would like to address all of these potential shortfalls and how they can be turned into a positive for both attracting as well as keeping the best employees.

1. The lack of career growth possibilities – A small business can have and show opportunities for career growth. While they do have a flatter organization, the potential for growth does exist for employees to pick up other skills when they help the owner and other employees with all the tasks and responsibilities that must be fulfilled. For example, they may help with advertising copy but be mostly a sales person. They can actively assist with other things such as inventory. Additionally a small business can divide itself by either business units or by disciplines. Either way, if employees have clearly defined areas of responsibility they can grow by learning and having responsibility for a number of different areas. In a simplistic example, it would be something like earning merit badges for the different areas of responsibility. Explaining how someone that grows within your organization will be building both broad and deep experiences that look great on a resume can be a real plus to many small business employees with the desire to grow. Many people who work in large companies do only one job for their entire career. These employees hit a ceiling in both pay and experience early and cease to grow past that point. This is something a small business owner needs to be sure and point out.

2. Employee compensation – While compensation is important, I believe its ability to retain top employees is much overrated. A small business doesn’t want to be too far away from what a larger firm might offer but more importantly, you want to reward employees with recognition in a number of ways. For example you might include, bonuses based on quantifiable results, extra time off, special perks like attending sporting events and in particular, recognition of performance for others in the business to take note of. This will not only help with the rising stars but it helps build healthy employee within the organization.

3. Employee Benefits – While employee benefits can include a lot of items, the main benefit that most concerns existing as well as potential employees is business health insurance. What a lot of small businesses do not know is that with sufficient up front planning, setup and management, the premiums of small business health insurance can be very reasonable. {A couple of other ways to keep this cost under control is employee incentives and employee contributions.|For example, two ways to manage the cost of this benefit is through incentives and employee contributions.}

4. An unstructured environment – Rather than allow a normally less structured environment in a small business to be viewed as a negative, present this as a positive. Here are two examples of ways to present a less structured business environment to prospective employees, a) A business environment which allows the flexibility to take on projects and acquire new skills that would not occur within a large company and b) Wearing various hats can position someone better for the owner’s job or to own and run their own business eventually.

When a small business owner takes all of these often perceived negatives and turns them into positives, the business owner will end up, not only with better employee hiring and retention, but also have a more successful business. This is all great for the business owner and their enterprise.

Employee Satisfaction and Exit Surveys Make Sense

May 28th, 2009

With the need for many organizations to be more streamlined and productive a business can sometimes find itself with groups of employees working under pressure that if not addressed could then lead to low moral and a high turnover of staff. The benefits of a company having a highly motivated workforce can be considerable and the two goals of having a workforce that is both motivated and productive should not be regarded as being mutually exclusive to one another.

Left unresolved employers run the risk of alienating their employees and events can then cause employee frustrations to explode resulting in employers finding themselves on the back foot, faced with problems that cannot be ignored.

Ideally employers would take time to understand the needs of their employees and learn from their experiences of working on the front line, but employers are often themselves tied up day to day fighting their own fires.

Online surveys provide employers with an affordable and efficient method to automate the process of collating the information and storing it in a format that allows for real-time analysis there by helping the management towards the goals of achieving staff satisfaction and high productivity.

Dissatisfied & unproductive

There are a plethora of reasons why employees may become dissatisfied with their job that can result in them channelling their frustrations into demands for higher salaries and reduced hours. Employers who tackle problems thinking it is all about salary and hours, will often find later that they have been dealing with the symptoms and not the root cause.

It’s not about money

The following are the most common problems to achieving productivity, none of which are likely to be resolved by increasing salaries or reducing hours:-

  • Insufficient training
  • Out of touch management
  • Out of date working methods
  • Lack of proper tools and equipment

Numerous studies have shown that salaries are rarely the most important priority for employees and providing an employer is paying a fair rate they would be fundamentally wrong to think that paying higher salaries is a panacea to all employee problems.

Take the case of a single mother who is juggling a full time job with the need to look after a child. Out of frustration she may demand more money so that she feels that she is able to cope where a better solution, for both her and the business, may be more flexible working hours.

Two way communication is what it is all about

It is in all companies interests to encourage good communication. An organization that makes communication between management and personnel difficult, or that takes the view that it is the responsibility for personnel who have a problem to say something, can often deceive themselves into thinking their workforce is content when it is not. It only takes one small problem and one disgruntled employee to feel aggrieved for an entire workforce to develop a destructive ‘them and us’ attitude.

Improving communication

Ideally management would hold one to one meetings with each employee but in practice this would only seem practical for very small businesses.

Regular meetings between management and worker representatives are good in theory but they often become talking shops and can begin to lose their edge as the participants become familiar with one another and the forum runs the risk of being hijacked by the more extrovert personalities.

Suggestion boxes can be useful but can be viewed as token efforts by management as they wait for personnel to highlight a problem.

Newsletters can be useful, but their main purpose is generally to inform and not discuss issues.

Keeping the initiative

An employee satisfaction survey run regularly is able to ask each employee specific questions and represents a pro-active management initiative where the whole workforce can be consulted on various issues. Surveys are able to provide a level playing field between the quieter and more vocal employees.

Consultation should not be seen as a sign of weakness, a confident manager will take counsel from all quarters before making a decision. By retaining the initiative and conducting a survey the employer is able to tackle problems from a position of strength as opposed to waiting for problems to arise and develop out of proportion.

If small problems are left unresolved the employees mood can change from positive to negative over night when a minor problem breaks the camel’s back.

It’s quick and easy

For most companies online surveys represent a proactive and low cost solution. They are quick to design and for many companies, where the majority of personnel have desktop computers, they are quick to deploy direct to the individual.

In situations where not all of the personal have access to a computer there are options available to implement the online survey solution such as providing a shared computer, have an operator input their responses or as a last resort, a hardcopy survey.

Job satisfaction

There are many elements that go towards providing an employee with job satisfaction, from the working environment, working methodology, working ethos, company ethics to having good and effective management. Job satisfaction brings benefits through improved motivation and productivity from a workforce that feels that they are treated as individuals and not a commodity item.

Inform and educate

An often overlooked benefit of online surveys is that they can be used to educate and pass on important information to the workforce, ensuring that the ‘message’ does not become corrupted as it is handed down by the phenomenon of Chinese whispers.

An online survey can explain a difficult situation to the employees and get valuable feedback as to the best solution. It is rare in this situation that the workforce would appear negative and more likely that they will feel informed and empowered that might in itself turn a potentially negative problem into a positive challenge that unites the workforce.

Exit surveys

Exit surveys are a method for management to confirm that when people leave the organisation they are leaving for valid reasons and not for reasons that if appreciated earlier could have been addressed and possibly resolved. Although identifying a problem may not prevent a person leaving, having identified a problem it can then be addressed and that may be enough to prevent other key personnel from leaving.

Analysing the results

After having consulted with the workforce using an online survey the survey results are available for instant analysis. Common and specific problems can be easily identified and brought to the attention of senior management who will then have the opportunity to address the issues that have been raised.

Summary

Used regularly online surveys represent a simple and productive method of taking the pulse of an organisation and an easy way to establish a two way communication channel between employer and employee with the results providing management with vital, accurate and significant information.

Introduction to Online Payroll Services

May 28th, 2009

In the past, whenever people heard about the payroll process, they most likely would think of a time clock with lots of people standing in line in front of it waiting with diminishing patience to stamp their time cards. Outside of that, the regular employee would always be concerned about some mechanical failure or simple human error that results in lost wages.

Also, companies were required to have a department that only does payroll, which adds to the usual problems of a large workplace, costing extra money and requiring more paperwork. Presently, businesses no longer have to put up with these problems with the advent of web-based payroll solutions.

Those that work for you are in a position to have several advantages with Internet payroll. When their employers use a web-based solution, they will see that they get paid on time without any problems arising.

Due to the efficient process, there are numerous points wherein problems can be found and corrected before having an effect on the paychecks. Furthermore, web-based payroll companies gives the ability to those that work for you to get access to pay stubs and tax information using a web-based solution.

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, several web-based payroll solution can arrange with employees for direct deposit. It allows employees to have their pay put right into in their checking account. Other leading solutions even have debit cards that send paychecks straight to the debit card, and that allows employees to instantly have access to their pay.

The benefits available to companies by using an online service are likewise amazing. As previously mentioned, there will be no more payroll processing that involves unnecessary paperwork. Obtaining services from an online payroll service can help businesses in creating forms for new employees, applications for unemployment and payroll taxes, saving a lot of time for more important matters.

Be educated before deciding on payroll processing services. You should know the quality and advantages that they are able to provide. The service you decide on must be able to assist you in deciding which plan is right for your situation.

How to Create a 30 60 90 Day Sales Plan to Use in a Non-Sales Interview

May 27th, 2009

Can you use a 30/60/90 day sales plan for non-sales jobs?

Certainly — it works for marketing, project management, technical support, and many others. As an example, I got a phone call from a candidate going for a job interview in MARCOM. He had a 30-60-90 day sales plan template, but needed help translating it into a document for a non-sales job like the one he wanted. We spent a few minutes brainstorming together, and came up with some ideas and new directions that I also wanted to share with you.

It is important to remember that there are goals you have to achieve in every job, not just sales jobs. Not all objectives are achievable within the first 90 days (the period of the plan) but even long term objectives should be listed, with their starting points. So, for example: if you are in Construction Engineering and you are in charge of a building project that will take more than 2 years to complete, there are a number of things that can be listed out to be done in the first 90 days in order to set yourself on the path to success. Those are the goals that you would use in place of sales goals.

The same types of communications happen in many jobs - just not necessarily with prospects. Instead of meeting with outside customers (as in sales), you might have more internal meetings, or you might be meeting with external vendors. For example, if you’re an events coordinator, you’re going to have to go on sites, request and review bids, share those with the sales staff perhaps, and have a plan for what needs to be done when.

Other possibilities for objectives to include in your 30-60-90 day plan: training, site visits, or learning company systems. There are many ways to tailor a 30/60/90 day sales plan to whatever job you’re interviewing for. Also, as you learn about the job while putting one together you’ll have more knowledge to put you own questions together for the interview, and you’ll start off with more information than the average candidate.

The point to keep in mind is: Creating a 30/60/90 day plan shows preparation, initiative, written communication skills, and that you’re interested enough in this job to have done your homework. That’s always impressive to hiring managers.

The website http://30-60-90-day-sales-plan.com/ offers tips and advice on the highly successful 30-60-90 day sales plans for interviews, as well as insights and suggestions for successful job interviews.
